Overview

Bill is a nationally board-certified, licensed acupuncturist specializing in acupuncture and physical medicine. He treats a wide range of conditions, with a primary focus on pain relief (acute and chronic), digestive health, anxiety, menopausal symptoms, migraines, headaches, and insomnia. He also helps manage trigeminal neuralgia, vertigo, and cancer-related side effects.

From a severely sprained ankle to stage 4 cancer, Bill meets you where you are in your healing journey, offering acupuncture and physical medicine as complementary therapies to speed up recovery. He works alongside local healthcare professionals and can refer you to specialists, including neurosurgeons, nutritionists, Ear, Nose and Throat specialists, and physical therapists.

Experience

With over 20 years of clinical experience in both private and hospital-based practices (including Inova Fairfax), Bill is the author of more than 150 publications. He is dedicated to advancing integrative healthcare across the United States.

Bill’s career began as an Aerospace Engineer, where he flight-tested helicopters for the U.S. Navy, worked on satellites with the U.S. Air Force Space Test Program, and supported the Joint Strike Fighter program. He later earned master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology and Systems Engineering from George Mason University. In 1997, he switched careers, studying acupuncture and oriental medicine at the Maryland Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine under Beijing and Shanghai medical school professors. Bill was President of his class and the first student to serve on the university’s Board of Directors.

Passionate about promoting acupuncture, Bill has served on various boards to help integrate acupuncture into mainstream healthcare at both state and federal levels. He was an adjunct professor at Georgetown School of Medicine and core faculty at Virginia University of Integrative Medicine. Bill served on the Board of Directors of the Integrative Health Policy Consortium and volunteers as a peer reviewer for four national medical journals.

Treatment Approach

Two vital components are often missing from U.S. healthcare: “Health” and “Care.” Bill offers compassionate, patient-centered healing, with a strong focus on health promotion and disease prevention. Drawing on his scientific background, he practices evidence-based acupuncture, where his treatment protocols are grounded in randomized controlled trials. Known as the “ouchless acupuncturist,” Bill uses the fewest needles possible to achieve the best results, making acupuncture more comfortable for his patients.

He embraces patient-centered care by sharing the decision-making process from the first visit through to resolution of symptoms and optimizing health.
